SAT Scoring

Students will receive 3 distinct scores for the three main section of the SAT on the scale of 200 to 800 points, thus a total test score of 600-2400. Since the average score of each section is about 500 points, the total average score of a student is about 1500 points. Apart form this the score for the new writing section will be achieved from two sub-scores: one based on a multiple-choice score of 20-80 and another on an essay score of 2-12. Two readers in about two minutes, reading it very quickly to judge it as a whole, will assess the essay independently. (This process is called the holistic scoring by the College Board) Each of the reader will assign a score of 1 to 6 points for the essays, with 6 being the highest possible score. The two scores will then be combined to give the total essay score of 2-12. In addition to the scaled score, students will be also receive a percentile score indication the percentage of students with scores below the student’s score.
