SAT Application Procedure
Once the list of the colleges that the student wishes to apply for is ready, the student can start concentrating on the application procedures.
- The first thing that the student should do on deciding to apply for a college is to collect the Address and E-mail ID of the chosen colleges. Students should contact the colleges’ at least a year prior to planning to enter the college to collect more information, application forms and financial aids. This is best done during the months of July and August.
- The next step to do will be to register for all the required admission tests such as TOEFL, SAT and ACT (in U.S only) for a Bachelor's program or Undergraduate study; and TOEFL, GRE and GMAT for a masters or doctoral program (Graduate study and research.) All the above mentioned tests are standardized and have centers around the world.
Arrangements can be made with the testing agencies to send the test scores directly to the colleges and universities that the student is applying for.
- Students should keep all their academic records including an official credential evaluation of the 'marks card' (known as Transcripts in USA) ready. These records should include certificates of achievement in co-curricular and extra curricular activities.
- Letters of reference form at least 3 or 4 teachers in school or professors who have taught the student previously should be acquired and kept ready. Teachers who know the student thoroughly can provide a balanced reference of the student’s ability to pursue advanced studies. These letters are one of the deciding factors during admission.
- The next step is to make a list of at least four courses that the student wishes to take up. Checking out whether these courses are available in India's colleges or Internet study option is crucial. If they are not available it is a good reason for convincing the Visa officer to give the student a Visa to visit the countries providing those courses for study.
- The final step of the preparation is getting a passport.
