GED Test Scoring

The GED test score of each of the section will from 200 to 800 points. Scores are awarded based on the number of questions the candidate answers correctly. The scores of each of the section are summed up and converted into a standard score scale which is represented as the 200 to 800 point scores. Apart from the individual section scores, the score sheet also contains the score total from all five tests, as well as an average and the percentile scores, which is a comparison score between the performances of the candidates with that of graduating high school seniors.

In order to pass the GED test the candidate should get a total score of 2250 or above. The passing score for each section of the GED is 410, but the candidates needs to get an average score of 450 in order to achieve the set passing score total. If the candidate fails to achieve the set passing score he will have to retake the entire or part of the GED test to accomplish the passing score. Some test centers may require the student to take preparation classes from tutorial before retaking the test or wait a fixed time period before making another attempt to pass the test. The students can retake a section only thrice in a years period.

The scores, except for the writings skill section, are issued within 5 working days to the candidates through post. The scores of the writing skills test score will be made available to the candidate within 2-3 weeks from the test date. The scores cannot be released through any other medium other than mails. Hence it is crucial to provide correct address during registration and inform the state GED office of any change in address through writing. Once the candidate completes all five sections of the test, he will receive a notification the status of the results through mail

Examinees who pass the test will receive a High School Equivalency Certificate of their state and an Official Report of test results through post, from the State GED Office within 6 to 8 weeks from the date of submission of the scores by the scoring center to the State GED Office.
