SAT Test Structure

The total time frame for completing the SAT exam is three-hour and 45 minute. This time frame is divided among 10 sections of the SAT test. The ten sections that the SAT is comprised of are classified under Reading, Writing, Math sections and one experimental section. The critical reading section contains two 25 minutes sections and one 20 minutes section. The critical writing section has two 25 minutes sections and one 10 minutes section. The math section consists of three 25 minutes sections. The scores are calculated only for the reading writing and math sections. The experimental section could contain question types from any of the three sections is not scored. The purpose of the experimental section is to assess questions for future test takers. As it is impossible to identify the experimental section from the scored sections since it comes under the same format as the rest, students have to perform well on all the sections of the SAT exam.
